The Spartan high school speech & debate team competed in their first tournament of the season: the Jeffco Novice Invite held at Chatfield HS.  57 students from 11 schools competed, including the larger Jeffco high schools.  STEM brought 8 students, all of whom were competing for the first time in their chosen events and all except one of whom had never previously been to a high school speech and debate tournament.

Two types of ribbons were awarded: excellence for the top students and superior for the very top students.  STEM went 8 for 8: 1 excellence ribbon and 7 superior ribbons!! It was a fabulous showing for our new Speech & Debate members, and a great sign of things to come.

Our next tournament will be on Oct. 25 at Castle View HS. Our varsity season begins in November.
