Spartan XC Starts Fast at Husky Invite

The STEM Cross Country team got off to a great start to their season on Friday, August 22 at the Platte Canyon Husky Invite. Due to the difficulty of the race being at nearly 9000 ft elevation with a course climbing in excess of 400 ft, Coach Peterson only brought 7 runners to the event. When it came to the STEM Spartans, that was more than enough! Senior Cooper Allen led the way by winning the boys division by over 30 seconds, and the lone female STEM runner, Junior Sarah Hathaway took 2nd in the girls division. The boys team took the team title, with Junior Tyler Marquez coming in 4th place, Seniors Ben Yoder and Preston Martinez also finishing in the top 10, and Sophomore Rey Ruiz completing the team scoring in 15th overall, and just 4 seconds out of 12th place. Freshman Grayson Stutz ran a strong race in his high school debut, also finishing in the top 25 of the boys division. Spartan XC looks forward to taking on their next course Friday, August 29 at the D’Evelyn Dash being held at Fehringer Ranch.
