Athletic Awards Night Celebrated

STEM Athletics and Activities held its 3rd annual Awards Night on May 13.  With highlights of all teams and awards presented, it was a celebration of Spartan competitors!  Of special note, STEM fielded its first ever HS  Cheer team this year, Boys Volleyball made its first CHSAA State Playoffs, and eSports continued to dominate with appearances in the Elite 8 of CHSAA and a team reaching the finals of the Mountain Region.  Senior banners were presented, and a record 68 students qualified as Scholar Athletes by maintaining a 3.8 GPA or higher while also earning a varsity letter.  The Girls Basketball team narrowly edged out Cross Country as the Academic Team of the Year with a varsity average GPA of 4.1.  In individual awards, Kyle Shoemaker and Gigi Irish were selected Freshman Athletes of the Year, the Most Improved Athletes were Morgan Hamm and Alex Stone, the Sportsmanship Award winners were Camren Irish and Beatrix O’Neill, and honored as the the male and female Spartan Student Athletes of the Year were Cooper Allen and Lizzy Hegemann.  To conclude the evening, Athletic Director Susan Jones announced her retirement, and was greeted with a standing ovation in recognition of her many contributions to STEM Spartan Athletics and Activities.  Congratulations to all of our Spartan competitors, you represented STEM with honor and have much to be proud of!
